Birthday present for my best girl friend? (Girl opinions)?

It was hard to ask as she is a friend who is a girl not a girl friend. There is a small story to this. I was friends with her for 3 and a half years, we talked on the phone for hours and so on. One day I got a girlfriend and there were problems and I freaked and didn't talk to her for about 11 months, at the time she was my best friend who was a girl. I still consider her that as I seem to get along with girls better then guys though I mostly hang out with guys, its weird. My mind is complicated :). Anyways her birthday is in May and when we started talking again she thought I was mad at her and I thought she was mad at me. So a fight that didn't actually happen... Well I wanted to get something for her on her birthday, she lives about an hour away but if I can hang out with her a little before that then I can give it to her. Its a birthday/sorry present, as soon she will be moving probably about 8 ish hours away when she grads, I'm grade 11 she's grade 12 so soon. Though I'll probably still talk to her, it wont be the same. So its a parting gift/sorry/birthday XD. Shes about 5 foot 1 or so, pretty short. She loves she wear beautiful things like dresses and makeup and really make herself look awesome. Though shes not a super skinny girl, shes like medium size, shes Guatemalan I'm pretty sure though I doubt that matter. But I don't wanna like buy her a shirt or skirt or bra or anything because if I'm off it's more of an insult I guess. So what do you suggest? Nothing messed up as if I gave her like a ring then well I looked messed up in the head and its like saying "I love you baby give it to me!" I guess aha, please any suggestions, if you thought this was to long and stupid then boo hoo! You got to do alot to make a girl happy, even if shes a friend so live with it! XD
