Is scarlet red darker than normal red?

There are a lot of reds and the color may vary with different brands. What is your normal red? Is it cadmium red? Look at what you have in the tube and compare the 2. I would think that one called scarlet would be more of a redder red but I don't know what your normal red is. If you want a darker red leaning toward burgundy and not so red then add a drop of burnt umber. Start with a bit pin head size and add that much each time until you get the right color. You can also mute it with green for a darker red. When mixing in other colors it is always best to go with that pin head size
